PSC commends Oaminal's eagerness towards sports development in MisOcc

 

TANGUB CITY, Misamis Occidental—The Philippine Sports Commission commended Misamis Occidental Governor Henry S. Oaminal for his eagerness to uplift sports activities in the province, especially for initiating the first-ever One Asenso Misamis Occidental Palaro 2024.

In his speech on behalf of the PSC Board, Philippine Sports Commission Commissioner Walter Torres said that Chairman Richard Bachmann was in the province a few weeks back intending to build connections and promote public awareness in sports as well as to advocate for inclusivity and peaceful sports in Mindanao.

“I’ve already witnessed the warmth and eagerness of Governor Henry Oaminal towards participation in sports a sign of greatness, and esteem for the province,” he shared, speaking with over 5,000 participating athletes and delegates from 14 municipalities and three cities of the Province of Misamis Occidental who gathered at Tangub City Sports Complex for the commencement of the 2024 One Asenso Misamis Occidental Provincial Meet on February 7. 

Torres also congratulated the provincial government of Misamis Occidental, organizers, coaches, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event possible.

“Your commitment to promoting grassroots sports development is commendable and your efforts and instrumental in nurturing the talents of our youth in shaping the future of Philippine Sports,’’ he said.

Further, Torres said the MisOcc PALARO 2024 embodies the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and excellence. 

"I am deeply inspired by the dedication and passion displayed by all," he emphasized. 

“As we celebrate the achievements of our athletes and the vibrant sports culture of Misamis Occidental, we are reminded of the power of sports to unite communities, instill discipline, and foster camaraderie," he added.

The commissioner also emphasized that in every competition—whether on the track, field, court, or arena—sports exemplify the values of perseverance, determination, and fair play.

For the past years, Torres said the Philippine Sports Commission has been expanding sports development programs throughout the country. 

“It has been a delight for us to always support our communities to engage in sports not just to help of course our talents but also to promote fitness and wellness,’’ he added. 

Torres reminded the participants that "victory is not solely measured by medals and trophies but by the friendships they form, the lessons they learn, and the memories they create along the way."

He then urged everyone to embrace challenges, cherish the moment, and always strive for excellence in everything they do.

“Let us embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and unity as we embark on the journey of competition and camaraderie. May the 2024 Asenso One Misamis Occidental Provincial Palaro be a celebration of talents, determination, and commendable human spirit,’" he said. (SN/PGMO)


Speaking on behalf of the PSC board, Commissioner Torres underscored that such an event unleashed the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and excellence among stakeholders of the sport industry. Torres said the dedication and passion portrayed by all the stakeholders are truly inspiring.
